Information on Application for Issuance of Police Certificates

Your application may not be accepted on the spot depending on the country or region to which you submit the certificate or grounds for the application.

Individuals who are eligible to make applications at Nagano Prefectural Police Headquarters are:

those who are required to submit a police certificate by a foreign public authority, such as a foreign embassy or an immigration bureau, and also meet one of the following conditions:

  1. those who presently reside and are registered in Nagano Prefecture; or
  2. those who presently reside overseas but whose last registered residence was in Nagano Prefecture.

※Applicants are required to appear in person to apply at Nagano Prefectural Police Headquarters.Applications by proxy will not be accepted.

Submit applications to(Not the Nagano Prefectural Government office)

Office Hours

Monday through Friday (The office is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, national holidays, and Dec.29 through Jan.3)

From 9:00 to 12:00

From 13:00 to 17:00

Receipt of the Police Certificate

About one week after the application is submitted, the applicant or the proxy must come to Nagano Prefectural Police Headquarters in person.

The certificate will not be mailed.

Documents Required for Application

For individuals currently residing in and registered in Nagano Prefecture
Non-Japanese nationals
  1. A document that confirms the necessity for a police certificate
    • A documen or a written application requesting submission of a police certificate issued by public authorities, such as a foreign embassy or an immigration bureau, etc.
  2. A valid passport
    • A photocopy is not acceptable
  3. A document proving residency in Nagano Prefecture
    • Any one of the following documents:
      • An official copy of certificate of residence(issued within the previous six months)
      • A residence card
      • A Special Permanent Resident Certificate
      • A Certificate of Alien Registration
      • A Japanese driver’s license
  4. Handling fee
    • 400-yen Nagano prefectural fiscal stamp
    • Note: The fiscal stamp is not available at the Identification Division. It must be purchased in advance.

For individuals currently living abroad, who were last registered in Nagano Prefecture before leaving Japan
Non-Japanese nationals
  1. A document that confirms the necessity for a police certificate
    • A document or a written application requesting submission of a police certificate issued by public authorities, such as a foreign embassy, an immigration bureau, etc.
  2. A valid passport
    • A photocopy is not acceptable
  3. A document proving current address
    • A driver’s license issued by a foreign government, etc.
  4. A document proving the last residency in Nagano Prefecture before leaving Japan
    • An Official Copy of Deleted Resident Register or a passport which has visa of your stay in Japan, etc.(issued within the previous six months)
  5. Handling fee
    • 400-yen Nagano prefectural fiscal stamp
    • Note: The fiscal stamp is not available at the Identification Division. It must be purchased in advance.

Application from overseas

Individuals residing abroad can make applications through the nearest Japanese Embassy or Consulate.

Only one application can be made.The same application cannot be submitted in Japan.
